Ceramic water filters save CO2 and improve health
The Lao People’s Democratic Republic has been described as the most heavily bombed nation in the world. Of the more than 2 million tons of bombs dropped on Laos during the Vietnam War between 1964 and 1973, up to 30% can be classified as unex ploded ordnance (UXO). These remain in the ground to this day and therefore represent a major challenge for Laos, which is characterized by agriculture. People are injured or killed by war material and socio-economic development and food security are hindered.
It is therefore all the more shocking that over 80% of the population in Laos still has no access to clean drinking water. Obtaining it usually involves a high risk and the available water has to be boiled using wood or coal, which is laborious and time-consuming, in order to prevent illness.
To combat the challenges in Laos, ceramic water filters are being produced for over 10,000 communities in Laos as part of the climate project. The aim is to ensure a sustainable supply of drinking water and replace inefficient boiling methods for purifying water.
The aim of the climate project is to produce 100,000 water filters and distribute them to the population. This should not only reduceCO2 emissions, but also sustainably improve the health and quality of life of the Laotian population.
Climate Certified
since 2022
Since 2022, HAGIM has been working with ClimatePatner to draw up its carbon footprint and offset its carbon footprint by selecting suitable projects.
Our corporate carbon footprint (CCF) was recalculated for 2024, including direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions from our business activities.
Total emissions: 73.33t CO₂
t. CO₂ - Scope 1 (direct emissions)
t. CO₂ - Scope 2 (purchased energy)
t. CO₂ - Scope 3 (indirect emissions)
Status: 2024
Our contribution to a sustainable future
The data collected together with ClimatePartner enables us to consistently incorporate CO₂ emissions into our corporate decisions.
By supporting the climate protection project in Laos, we are offsetting unavoidable emissions and at the same time making a contribution to sustainable local development.
